The Risks of Playershare

This project is a high-risk investment, and there is a significant chance of participants losing their money, Over recent seasons, AFC Bournemouth has been a “selling club” and is likely to remain so for the immediate future. However the past season has seen the transfer market dwindle to almost nothing, so in the short term, significant transfer income is improbable.

In addition to the above, the risks include:

  • Players in which Playershare has an interest may suffer loss of form, serious injury, or otherwise fail to develop as anticipated and so prove to have no sell-on value.
  • Players may stay with the Club throughout their contract period and then leave for no fee “on a Bosman”
  • Changes in player transfer rules may affect transfer values
  • The financial circumstances of the Club may deteriorate to the point where they cannot continue in business
  • There will be no formal market for the shares

If the scheme proves successful, shareholders may be able to recoup their money by selling their shares at a profit to other supporters, but these would be private transactions. There will be no formal market for shares, and there is no plan to seek a listing or dealing on any stock market.

It is important to emphasize that after deciding to take a financial interest in a player, Playershare would have no further rights to influence the Club’s normal decision-making processes in respect of that player. Decisions on selection, and on whether, when and at what price to sell will be entirely at the discretion of the Club management.
