Many fans have indicated that they would give money to help the club if it
was guaranteed to be used to strengthen the playing squad but, for legal reasons,
the minimum contribution to Playershare is £1,000 which has meant that
many supporters could not afford to contribute to the scheme. To enable fans
to support Playershare, the AFC Bournemouth Community Mutual is collecting
smaller donations from fans which can be aggregated into lots of £1,000
and which the Mutual will then use to buy shares in Playershare.
The serious financial problems at AFC Bournemouth are far from over and the
club does not have the substantial funds needed to buy new players or bring
in further loan signings either now or during the close season. The Cherryshare
scheme earlier in season 2002/2003 has really helped the Club's off-pitch activities
but we now need to raise money to ensure a bright future for the Club on the
pitch. Remember that any money donated to Playershare via the Mutual will be
made available to AFC Bournemouth for a wide range of purposes directly linked
to making the playing squad stronger, including paying the transfer fees of
new players and funding the wages of loan players. Donations will not be used
in connection with off-pitch activities.
