The signing of Warren Cummings was a clear indication for Bournemouth's fans
that the board has big hopes for the team. The left-back first played for Bournemouth
between October 2000 and January 2001, but he returned to the club last season
despite the side's relegation to Division Three, and he was a key player in the
push for promotion.
His career begun in the Chelsea youth teams, and despite three years as a
professional at Stamford Bridge he never appeared in the Blue's first team,
spending most of his time on loan at either Bournemouth, West Brom or Dundee.
In his first spell at Bournemouth he was highly rated by the Dean Court faithful
but out of the club's price range at the time. He also gave a good account
of himself north of the border, but a falling out with his new boss meant he
returned to Chelsea.
Dundee's loss would be Boscombe's gain, as the Scottish international returned
to the club in January 2003 originaly on loan, before signing a permanent contract
with the club. Cummings is one of the most consistant players in the team,
and he put on a great display in the play-off final, despite playing through
an ankle injury.
His biggest strength is his ability to go forward from the back and join the
attack, but he is also key to the back four with his defensive duties, and
he should be in the first team for years to come, with his next big aim being
to break into the Scotland team on a regular basis.
